The starting date for adventures in Jules Verne’s
Around the World in 80 Days

"His breakfast consisted of a side-dish, a broiled fish with Reading sauce, a scarlet slice of roast beef garnished with mushrooms, a rhubarb and gooseberry tart, and a morsel of Cheshire cheese, the whole being washed down with several cups of tea, for which the Reform is famous."

American poet Wallace Stevens – "now considered one of the major American poets of the twentieth century" – was born on this day.
One of his major works, The Emperor of Ice Cream, "is apparently "set" in Key West, a place that inspired much of Stevens's work, and where it was a tradition to have ice cream at funerals."
